Better Yourself- Speaking to a Professional & Goal Setting

Thanks for following along with XanFree this year as we continue to try to spread awareness and help those who may be struggling right now. As we continue to dive deeper into bettering yourself, we feel it is important to explain why these techniques can help reduce and improve anxiety and stress.

Speaking With A Professional

Speaking With A Professional

Everyone is talking about anxiety these days, and it's not a bad thing. Bringing to light mental health topics helps lower stigmas that can keep people dealing with these issues from seeking support.

At the same time, it can be hard to know if the worries and racing heart you experience at the thought of, say, meeting new people, is run-of-the-mill stress, or if you’re actually experiencing some level of anxiety and could benefit from seeing a professional.

Figuring out how serious your anxiety is can be tough because anxiety is a normal and essential part of being a human. When anxious thoughts are interfering with your life and causing distress, that isn’t something someone should just believe is nerves and just push through. That’s something you can get help with.

Sitting down with a professional who is trained in assisting people deal with and treat these symptoms and issues. If you are unable to meet with a professional you can call the National Alliance on Mental Health’s HelpLine at 1-800-950-6264 or Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) treatment locator tool, which can help you find mental health providers who take various forms of insurance, offer payment assistance.

Goal Setting

Goal Setting

When dealing with anxiety is difficult when you feel as though you don't have a grasp on what's currently going on and when things start to feel uncertain. The sense that things are spiraling out of control can result in a feeling of fear and a sense of impending doom.

Goal setting however, can be a point of focus that prevents you from feeling extremely anxious. There are ways that you can goal set to reduce anxiety.

  1. Decide on a goal that you want to set for yourself
  2. Set short-term goals to reach on the way to the major goal
  3. Have people in your corner to cheer you on

There can be a lot to feel anxious about. However, keeping focus on things that you want to accomplish can help motivate you. They can also keep you focused on the positive instead of on negative things and feeling anxious about those things.

Stay Tuned

So many people need help from a professional. Realizing when to speak to one is the hard part but identifying the signs is important. Goal setting can also be a great way to focus on more positive things and reduce anxiety. More resources for getting help can be found here and more goal setting tips can be seen here.
