Anxiety Stats - You Are Not Alone

Thanks for following along with XanFree this year as we try to spread awareness and help those who may be struggling. Before we begin to dive deeper into anxiety, stress, and other topics, we feel it is important to explain why this is such an issue and why people should care.

Anxiety By The Numbers

Anxiety, every day many people are affected by it. But just how many? The Anxiety & Depression Association of America reports that:

  • Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.
  • Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.
  • People with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders.
  • Anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events.

These numbers are alarming, to say the least. If you have ever felt like you are alone in your struggle, you are not.

The Types of Anxiety & Comorbidities

The ADAA also reported that nearly half of all people diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services states that the five major types of anxiety disorders are:

  1. GAD, or Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  2. OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  3. Panic Disorder
  4. PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  5. Social Anxiety Disorder

The amount of people affected by any of the five disorders above is a majority percentage of those in the United States.

This is why we want to help be part of the resolution. XanFree's goal is to get more attention on this issue and try to help those struggling currently.
